The winners were Julian Lings (Sheffield RC) in a time of 30:39 and Julie Briscoe (Wakefield Harriers) in a tim of 36:17. There were 129 finishers.

The race was won by Karl Egdell (Hallamshire Harriers) in a time of 16:40. There were 220 finishers.

A time of 30:41 from Richard Weir of Derby AC saw off all contenders by nearly a minute on a crisp (the sponsors were doing a brisk trade in running gloves) but sunny morning on what is arguably the speediest track in these parts with only one gradient of significance. The dozen or so Striders were led home by Barry Gyte (2nd M55) whilst Alison Barrett joined the ranks of veteran athletics by leading our ladies home. (1st Lady Calli Thackery, Hallamshire in 36:35). This race has followed other local events by providing the convenience of on line entry together with a decent technical t-shit (in this case hi-viz flourescent yellow) instead of the more common promo-cotton stuff. With results available later the same afternoon, it's not a surprise that this race, hosted by North Derbyshire Running Club, was sold out yet again.

This is a low key end of year cross country race, two laps of woodland trails and field paths, with a couple of short steep ascents.  The winners were Zak Mellard in 25:06 and Lindsy Gray in 28:59, both of host club Kimberworth Striders. There were 104 finishers.

The race was won by John Broom (Barnsley Harriers) in a time of 17:49. There were 30 finishers.

The final league fixture and championship race in the South Yorkshire X-Country Series was held in the Northern Racing Collegue grounds outside Doncaster on a cold and wet day. There were 143 runners in men’s race, won by Robert Little (Hallamshire Harriers) in 33:37, and 80 runners in the women’s race, won by Jade Allen (Rotherham Harriers) in 25:16. Having got promoted from Division B to Division A last season, Steel City Striders were duly relegated back again this season!

The 3rd fixture in the South Yorkshire X-Country Series was held at a fantastic venue of Mount St Mary's College in the village of Spinkhill on the South Yorkshire/Derbyshire border. The weather was windy but very mild . There was another good turnout from Striders and a fine performance again from Daniel Claus. There were 130 runners in men’s race, won by Jacob Clarke (City of Sheffield AC) in 30:51, and 70 runners in the women’s race, won by Jade Allen (Rotherham Harriers) in 23:22.

Another damp and chilly day: for several Striders this was the second successive weekend of racing in the Barnsley mist. Congratulations to Mary Howath and Michael Savage – first and second respectively in their age categories. The event was the final counter in this year’s road race championships and saw Pete Brown hold off Andy Buck to win the V50 title by a single point. The race was won by Martin Sanders (Rothwell Harriers) in 33:26. Calli Thackery (Hallamshire) was the first woman home in 37:13. There were 669 runners.

Compared to the first fixture, this event took place in conditions more commonly associated with cross-country racing: a misty, damp day with wet ground underfoot. Each lap of the castle grounds consisted of long descents and one big climb over bumpy fields. The runners looped past a pond, an architectural folly and a herd of deer hiding in the woods. Another fantastic turnout from Striders and a particularly fine performance from Daniel Claus. There were 156 runners in men’s race, won by Andy Thake (Hallamshire) in 32:56. The race was won by Andrew Siggers of  Kenilworth Runners in a time of 2:39.36. The first lady was Kate Mills of Springfield Striders in in a trime of 3:14.56. There were 390 finishers.

The race was won by Karl Egdell (Hallamshire Harriers) in a time of 16:51. There were 289 finishers.

A really nice event, but if the absence of many club vests is anything to go by, was mainly unattached runners.  The course was two laps, about half off road and half on road/tarmac path, with one tough climb and plenty of undulations.  There may have been more Striders in this race but it is also nigh on impossible to pick out club results. There were 915 finishers. The winners were: Julian Lings in a time of 34:38 and Stephanie Sutcliffe in a time of 40:25.

Great turn out from the club on a cloudy day with not much wind. It was damp underfoot but mercifully the rain held off: good conditions for racing, which showed in the PBs recorded by several Striders. Congratulations to Dave Palmer, Barry Gyte and Carol Beattie who all won their respective age categories. There were 1,936 runners and the race was won by Stuart Spencer (BARR) in a time of 1:09:22. First woman was Kelly Crickmore (Chester Tri Club) in a time of 1:21:26. The race was the penultimate counter in this year’s road race championships. This year for once, finishers received a decent technical t-shirt rather than the usual mis-shapen cotton variety!

Tristan Swain ran his debut marathon at the Snowdonia Marathon on Saturday 29th October 2011. He finished in 624 out of 1,418 finishers with a long list of DNF's in a time of 4:09.15. The winner was Rob Samuel of host club Eyri in 2:36.45 whilst first lady was Kelly Morgan from Pontypridd in 3:11.32. With two massive climbs to 1,100ft and 1,200ft, this is a monster whilst you can forget about the scenery as it was belting down with rain. Tristan should be well pleased with this and we're waiting to see what he can do on more humane terrain.

The race was won by Chris Adams (Rotherham Harriers) in a time of 16:49. There were 243 finishers.

This was the first time a cross country league fixture had been held here for many years and the lovely autumn day, ideal for racing, (very firm ground underfoot) showed it off well. However, the course wasn’t the easiest – all uphill slog and downhill charges with hardly any flat in between. There was a particularly sharp little hill right near the end of each circuit. Being the opening fixture, both races were shortened slightly. A good turn out from Striders who are challenging to stay in the top division after being promoted last year. There were 142 runners in men’s race, won by Rob Baker (Hallamshire) in 26:56. There were 96 women (the highest turn out for 12 years) in the women's race, won by Poppy Blake (University of Sheffield) in 18:16.

The race was won by Michael Sprot (Hallamshire Harriers) in a time of 16:56. There were 261 finishers.

The British Fell and Hill Relay Championships are an important fixture in the annual fell racing calendar.  For the first time (we think) Striders entered a team in this year's event which was run from Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales. Simon Wiles led off in the first leg, a pretty fast and furious 4.5 miles and 1,100 feet of ascent, followed by Dave Ansell and Dave Parry with the longest leg, 9 miles and 2,500 feet.  Andy Buck and Ian Stinson completed leg three - the navigation leg of about 8 miles in which the teams run for about a mile to pick up a map, and then have to navigate to numbered checkpoints.  Dean Young ran the anchor leg, 5.4 miles and 1600 feet, and brought us home in 5:05:41, 136th of 182 finishers. We had a great day - stunning weather, great routes and a really well organised event.  What about senior, vets and women's teams for next year? The event was won by Dark Peak Fell Runners in 3:23:50, who also had two other teams in the top 20.  The first women's team was Bingley in 4:18:12.

The race was won by Michael Sprot (Hallamshire Harriers) in a time of 17:05. There were 256 finishers.

The weather for this great race was poor, with low cloud on the tops and heavy rain towards the finish.  The 13.5 mile race was won by John Brown of Salford in 1:36:34 and, in 4th place overall, by Olivia Walwyn Bush of Altrincham in 1:42:47. There were 209 finishers.

The race which was won by Micah Koga in a time of 28:45.

The first marathon in Liverpool for 18 years had around 5,000 finishers.  It was marred by a 45 minute delay to the start with runners stuck in the pens losing the will to live. It featured a scenic and breezy excursion along the Wirral side of the Mersey and a two mile trip under the river.  There were two long inclines - climbing out of the tunnel and then at about 16 miles. Surprisingly, with not a very impressive time, I was 3rd in the 60+ category (and set a new club record).  The race winner was John McCole of Liverpool Harriers in 2:34:41.

Andy Buck was the sole strider in this 13.5 mile, 2,500' ascent fell race, which was won by John Brown of Salford in 1:36:34 and Olivia Walwyn Bush of Altrincham who was fourth overall in 1:42:47.  There were 209 finishers.

A p.b by 20 minutes for new Striders member Linda Haley in this race which was won by Ben Fish of Blackburn Harriers in 2:27:25 and Debbie Mason of Rotherham Harriers in 2:48:11.  There were over 3,000 finishers.

Congratulations to David Palmerwho won the race in a time of 16:53. There were 294 finishers.

This race was held on an unseasonal hot day. It was well organised by Dark & White Challenge Events, and took in Castleton, Mam Tor, Hollings  Cross, Edale, Kinder, Edale YHA, then back up Hollings Cross, Win Hill and returning to Hope.  The race was won by Kevin Perry in a time of 3:09:27. There were exactly 100 finishers.

Although still unseasonably warm, Ming the Merciless had turned down his heat ray by a couple of degrees from recent temperatures for this counter to the Striders Road Race Championship. Well marshalled, with  traffic kept under control, this rural course has the potential for fast times although our two M50's were ruing the efficacy of running back to back races after doing the Cutler's the day before. Winner was Carl Ryde of Doncaster in 32.48 whilst leading lady Julie Buckley of Penistone (40.12) said the effect of the heat still showed as she ran 38 minutes last year. There were 355 finishers.

This is a big event with clubs from across the north of England and with separate races for U17's down to under 11's there was much to watch on a great course for spectators. Striders were represented on home turf by an M50 team who endured the hottest October day ever recorded to finish a creditable 5th in their age category. To put things in perspective however, the fastest leg of the day was run by senior Steve Hepple of Loftus-Whitby in 10:00.

The race was won by Paul Faulkner (Hallamshire Harriers) in a time of 16:34. There were 250 finishers.
